In the south of Lengerich along the road, direction Ladbergen, is the former knights' manor 'Vortlage House' situated. It is a motte-and bailey castle, a fortification with a wooden keep situated on a raised earthwork called a motte, accompanied by an enclosed courtyard, surrounded by a protective ditch and palisade, established since the 13th-century. In the course of the centuries, the manor house was relocated to its present location at the start of the 18th-century. Today, the old terrain line 'Zur alten Vortlage' is a reminder.
In the year 1991, the Vortlage House situated in a charming landscape - for short called 'Vortlage', consisting of mill oak-avenue, moat and main house (farm and manor), could celebrate its 700 year anniversary.
The private facility with the restored mill can only be seen from the outside. Still, the classicist style of the main house and the gate facility from 1730, gives one an idea of how noble people lived in the past.
