Tractor Museum Westerkappeln

The Tractor Museum Westerkappeln exhibits one of most extensive and important tractor collections in Germany's northwest area. In four exhibition units it shows the development of a tractor from the prime mover to the universal tractor as well as the technical development in tractor construction. On show are over 30 historic tractors and further agricultural machines and devices.

The foundation for the Tractor Museum Westerkappeln was laid by the farmer Friedrich Frehmeyer from Westerkappeln-Düte in the mid 1960ties. By coincident he received an old Lanz-Bulldog from the neighbourhood, which he mended. repaired. Since then, the collection has developed into one of the most extensive and important of its kind in Germany's northwest area.

When the collection became so big by and by that further housing became a problem and the family Frehmeyer was not able to finance further buildings, solutions had to be found to protect the collection.
An association was founded in November 1985, which is mainly carried by the community, who also runs the Tractor Museum since the 01.10.1986.

The family Frehmeyer, made a plot of around 7.000 m² available to the association, including the museum building. The club received the tractors and devices as a permanent loan. In the year 1987, the association started the creating of further accommodation options.
An old half-timbered barn, situated in the neighbouring community of Mettingen was dismantleld and next to the museum rebuilt. Building work was completed in 1990.
