Westerkappeln

is a dynamic community, which offers you a diverse culture-historical programme!
The town church stems in part from the year 800. apart from the cathedral in Osnabrück, first chapels emerged in the countryside, namely a 'gen Morgen' (towards morning), the east chapel and a 'gen Abend' (towards evening', the west chapel. From those The village names Ostercappeln and Westerkappeln developed from those chapels later.
Even further back in history are the Sloopsteene. the around 4000 years old megalithic tomb counts as one of North Germany's biggest prehistoric cult sites.

Especially pretty is also the palace 'Cappeln House'. The privately owned estate can only be seen from the outside, but is, due to its Renaissance influences and the special location on the two islands a jewel well worth seeing.

The Tractor Museum Westerkappeln exhibits one of the most extensive and important tractor collections in the northwest German area. It shows in four exhibition units the development of the tractor, from the motor engine to the universal tractor as well as the technical development of tractor construction. To be seen are over 30 historical tractors and other agricultural machines and devices.

History and art are combined at a special community place: On the upper floor of the watermill in the village of Velpe, works by the Westerkappeln artist Gustav Künnemann are being exhibited.
Friends of golf are also at the right address in the village Velpe: here you are able to pursue your sport in a comfortable atmosphere at the golf course.
